Do I need to have studied mindfulness before?
No, we don’t expect you to know anything about mindfulness before you join the course. All the skills you need are introduced over the eight-week course.
How long is the course?
Two-and-a-half hour classes are taught over eight consecutive weeks, with an optional one-day silent retreat after five/six weeks, usually held over a weekend.
What am I expected to contribute?
Attend each session and set aside time during the week at home to practice some of the guided meditations that you have learnt in class.
How will I benefit?
Mindfulness will help you find over time a deep sense of peace, and improved health and wellbeing. It provides the tools to help you choose how you will respond, rather than react, to managing everyday life challenges and difficulties and will help you re-address the balance between the negative and postive, bringing about a great appreciation of life.
How do I know if I am doing it right?
Having completed the course, you will feel a greater sense of connectedness with your own mind and body and with the world around you. Situations that you wouldn’t have tackled before will seem manageable, thanks to the clarity of vision and perception that mindfulness gives you.
Do I need to believe in religion?
Mindfulness meditation is non-religious. It is based in part on Buddhist mediation practices, but no religious aspect is taught on the 8 Week Mindfulness course.
Does mindfulness work for everyone?
Mindfulness is not suitable for everyone and is not a panacea for lifes physical and emotional challenges, although huge benefits can be gleened for many who manage to develop a strong mindfulness practise. Those suffering from severe depression should always consult their doctor or psycologist before beginning the course.
How do I fit mindfulness into an already busy life?
The initial course of eight weeks, with two and a half hours per week, plus home practice, is a short-term investment for a lifetime’s of improved health & wellbeing. Mindfulness is a skill that can be fitted around your day to suit your needs. It does require your discipline and commitment to practice.
How do I make mindfulness work for me once the course is over?
One of the key aims of the course is to offer participants practical techniques for integrating a mindfulness routine into daily life. The supporting CD’s and workbook will give participants a framework while the teacher will be able to offer personalised advice on home practice. There are also monthly sessions and top-up retreat days to help keep your practice going.
